糧食安全對世界各國來說都是重要議題,特別是像印度及中國人口眾 多的開發中國家。糧食產出係透過農業活動、農業體質、農學家等多種要 素,同時糧食安全亦依此為參考指標。本研究試圖深入農業的多種項目,從 傳統指標例如可利用土地、灌溉設施、勞動力、對現今科技的負擔能力及 可行性,例如飲食結構的改變、市場效應,工業化及都市化對基改作物的 辯論。正如中印二國所面臨農民自殺、糧食浪費及極度饑餓等問題,在下 個世界大戰中,糧食安全能否引發「食物思考」值得吾人深思。
Food security has been a serious issue for most countries of the world especially for populous developing nations like India and China. Food is produced through agricultural activities and the health of agriculture, agriculturists and its various indicators hence becomes a parameter for determining food security. This paper tries to explore into various nuances of agriculture ranging from traditional indicators like availability of land, irrigation facilities, availability of labour, affordability and feasibility of technology to more contemporary ones like changing diet structures, effects of market, increasing industrialisation and urbanisation to GMO food debate. As both countries battle with their problems of farmer suicides, food wastage and extreme hunger, can food insecurity serve as ‘food for thought5 for the next World War is a question to ponder.
