The global laser production value in 2015 reached 10 billion US dollars, a slight growth of 4% compared to 9.6 billion US dollars in 2014, according to a survey done by Strategies Unlimited and compiled by Photonics Industry & Technology Association (PIDA). It is estimated that the 2017 annual production value will reach 11.3 billion US dollars, as shown in Figure 1. Take 2015 for example, semiconductor laser and non-semiconductor laser took up 57% and 43% of the revenue respectively compared to 56% and 44% in 2014, in which the percentages substantially remain unchanged and should remain pretty much the same in 2016.
