The study determines the relative effectiveness of Problem Based Learning Method (PBLM) and Traditional Teaching Method (TTM) on pupils artistic attitude in visual arts in Nigeria. The objective was to establish the artistic attitude of pupils. Two (2) Hypotheses were raised and tested. Constructivism theory of teaching and learning provided support for the study. Quasi-experimental design of pre-test, post-test non-equivalent group consisting of two experimental groups and one control group were used. The target population was all primary five pupils in registered private schools in Nigeria. Purposive and simple random sampling techniques were used to select schools and pupils. Pupil Attitude Toward Visual Arts Teaching (PAVA) was used as an instrument with reliability coefficient 0.89 which was ascertained using Cronbach’s Alpha. After twelve weeks of instruction by the researcher and some trained research assistants, the subjects were post-tested using the instrument. Inferential statistic of One Way Analysis of Variance and Scheffe’s post hoc comparison was used to test the hypotheses formulated. The result showed that pupils taught Visual Arts using PBLM have positive artistic attitude toward visual arts learning and teaching, and there is no significant gender difference. It was concluded that PBLM is more effective than TTM and recommended that PBLM be introduced in teaching and learning of visual arts to primary schools pupils in Nigeria.
