This article attempts to illustrate the dissident spirit in Jan Patocka’s philosophy. Firstly, it analyses the affiliation between “the Banality of Evil” and “Rule of the Day”, which leads to the discussion of the relationship between technocracy and nihilism. Then, this article presents Patocka’s distinction of “the three movements” of human existence, as well as his exploration of “the movement of truth” in light of phenomenology. Finally, it indicates how his phenomenology of “Sacrifice” and “Polemos” can contribute to a reflection of the role of intellectuals in an age of postmodernism.
