草書的藝術性與閱讀性是否可能並存？ 藝術性追求形式美， 閱讀性追求文 意之理解， 欣賞與閱讀同時間只能擇一從事， 另一項就缺席了。而藝術性與閱 讀性孰輕孰重？ 如何相融相成？ 本文除探討草書的藝術性和閱讀性本質外， 也 探討審美與識字間知性與感性的交融。本論文之分段大要： 草書是各類書體中藝術性最強的書體， 其興乃為求速求簡的實用性， 因為 求速而產生了字與字間的鈎連， 此鈎連成了草書最具藝術性的部分， 但也因為 辨識之難而成為閱讀障礙。 草書的藝術性呈現在於： （ 一） 草書之形象藝術、（ 二） 草書使轉的運筆 藝術、（ 三） 草書的情意調控。 草書的閱讀性雖有難度， 但若能讀出一件作品的內容， 則對欣賞的完整性 實有俾益。閱讀主要在其（ 一） 辨識字意、（ 二） 賞讀文意、（ 三） 觀其內容 與形式的密附。 草書的藝術性與閱讀性的呈現， 欣賞活動中識字與審美或並行， 或分行， 或識字先於審美， 或先躍入審美階段再審其字、別其意， 但創作時卻一定識字 先於審美， 因為離開文字則不成書法。 故草書的閱讀性為藝術性的基礎， 今日閱讀性式微， 追求形式美藝術性的 同時， 若以其閱讀性為底蘊， 不僅能掌握書法本質， 且追求藝術價值能功效相 成。

Usually, it is difficult to consider artistry and readability both well in cursive script works. While the key factor of artistry is the formal beauty, readability would base on the easiness of the understanding to context, thus they are sometimes not compatible. Which one is more important? How to integrate these two elements? This essay will focus on the artistry and readability within the innate character of cursive script works. And then it will discuss the integration of aesthetic and readability, and the combination of intellectuality and the sensibility. The main points of each paragraph are as below: 1 . The cursive script is with best artistry among all Chinese chirography. Originally, it was created only for practical purpose to simplify and accelerate the handwriting. During this process, some connections are created between each character, and which then formed the unique artistic value of cursive scripts. In the other hand, those connections also made obstacles for reading. 2. The essence of cursive scripts artistry are: (1) graphic art of the images and the figures, (2) art of the running of the writing brush (3) sentiment expression in a cursive script work. 3 . Although the reading work of must be with difficulty, it is good to understand the context for more comprehensively and deepgoing relishing a cursive script artwork. The reading work would focus on: (1) recognizing each character (2) appreciating the text (3) the interconnection between context and graphic art. 4. When appreciating a Chinese calligraphy artwork, the reading work and aesthetic work can be carried out either simultaneously or separately (and no matter which one goes first). But during the process of artwork creation, the concept of words is necessarily formed before the concept of images, since it is so called “calligraphy.” 5 . Therefore, the artistry of cursive script artworks should base on the readability, although which is not valued as before. While mainly pursuing the formal beauty, if we still keep readability as a footstone, we could not only exactly hold the intrinsic spirit of calligraphy, but also let literariness a good help for artistic expression.
