A recently emerging concern in the reforms of higher education has been focused on the students’ required capabilities and intended knowledge with a view to solving immediate problems in social life. The reformists highlight responsibility and practice in a society, where universities are of a part, and they expect the establishments of higher education to bring forth social programs with human touch and academic initiative within their living contexts. Indeed, some scholars with main interests in applying art education into the social practice are of the view that art initiative should be more attentive to the relations between man and the lands. It is also maintained that through the art activities, dialogues among groups can be fostered so that all the participants in these dialogues are ushered into reflection over the cultural links and social pulse. Accordingly, an interdisciplinary team consisting of teachers and students was formed to conduct a collaborative action research for half a year with a case study of the Lenei community nearby. The purposes of the study are as follows: 1. what are the strategies of artistic social practice of higher education? 2. what is the performance of artistic social practice of higher education? The research results are: 1. The professional college team proved successful in unearthing artistic potentials of the community as well as the university’s via art activities; 2. teachers and students demonstrated both their willingness and capabilities to co-establish the local aesthetic values of people, culture, land, landscape and produce with the community through the medium of art. The paper ended with some suggestions from the perspective of curriculum design for further discussions.
