Previous studies demonstrated that the demographic distributions varied between indigenous peoples and other ethnic groups in terms of exercise, cardiovascular diseases and metabolic syndrome. After data collection and analysis, this study found that 44.1% of indigenous peoples had obesity. Such percentage was higher than that of other ethnic groups. Meanwhile, the indigenous peoples had a life expectancy 8.34 years shorter than the average of all nationals. They also presented a significantly lower percentage than Han people in doing exercise. The chance for the indigenous peoples to have hypertension and cerebrovascular diseases was 2.4 and 2.3 times higher than the average rate of all nationals respectively. The overall prevalence of metabolic syndrome among them was 42.6%, with males accounting for 41.5% and females for 43.5% compared with other ethnic groups. Diet and environment have caused the indigenous peoples inconvenience for doing exercise and led to obesity. Therefore, it is suggested that cultural appropriateness should be taken into consideration while designing exercise models in order to fulfill the needs of the indigenous peoples in the future.
