莊子是古代最善用神話的哲學家之一,他以神話的寓言來啓發智慧並揭示哲理,在 〈消遙遊〉中開宗明義地以「錕化鵬」的變化神話,表示其中心思想是一自我超越的精神, 並唯有追求與萬物冥合爲一才可達成其境界。莊子的精神境界的完成,事實上與原始宗 敎信仰有密切的關係;莊子繼承了《山海經》裡的變化神話,一方面發展出與萬物冥合 的自我超越的精神系統;另一面,他的神話思維同時也積澱著原始宗敎的鬼神信仰,並 且繼續保留在今天的民俗信仰中。

英文摘要

Chuang-tzu was an ancient Philosopher who was good at using myth. He explored philosophical doctrine and revealed his wisdom through the use of allegory. In “Hsiao-yao-yu,” he clearly explained the meaning of “K’un changes and becomes P’ eng,,f and declared rited the myth of becoming in Shan-hai ching. From it, he developed the spirituality of self-transcendence through the union with all things. He also kept some of the ancient beliefs in ghosts and spirits; these beliefs are still alive in Chinese religions today.
