本文獻述評主要是向非中文學者介紹李亦園先生的馬來西亞硏究及其主要貢獻。 李先生的《一個移殖的市鎭：馬來亞華人市鎭生活的調査硏究》發表於1970年，此書 詳細描述了馬來西亞一個市鎭的華人群體認同及其與華人經濟結構，社區結構和地方 領袖制度的關係，並論述了華人的家庭和宗敎生活。《一個移殖的市鎭》一書顯示出一 個人類學者如何運用參與觀察，訪問和問卷方法硏究一個市鎭的族群。本書對人類學 和東南亞華人硏究具有重要的參考價値和學術價値。

This review essay aims to highlight Prof. Li Yih-Yuan’s important contribution to the study of the Chinese in Malaysia, especially to non-Chinese readers, by reviewing his book An Immigrant Town: Life in an Overseas Chinese Community in Southern Malaya, which was published in Chinese in 1970. The book provides a detailed description of speech-group identities, their relationship with economic activities and significance to communal structure and local leadership, as well as family life and religion. This anthropological study of the Chinese in a Malaysian town in the 1960s is a significant contribution to both anthropology and the study of ethnic Chinese in Southeast Asia.
