原始儒家以仁為學說核心。仁即愛人，是有差別的愛，亦即情感的關懷；或仁即相人偶之人，以人意相存問也。海外新儒家們卻以極端的「六經注我」、西學「格義」等方式，發展出「儒學的宗教性」、「終極關懷」、「弘揚價值世界」等特徵。其與孔孟儒相比，大有「南橘北枳」之感，即海外新儒家們以價值取向代替孔孟儒情感取向，以利代替孔孟儒義，以理性代替孔孟儒仁之本懷等。此乃現代新儒家們自說自話也，與吾孔孟儒落差極大。
