This essay aims at arguing for the statement “Each and every one of us can become Christ” in the light of Karl Rahner’s Transcendental Christology. Confucianism theorizes that “Each and every one of us can become Yao and Shun”. In real-life situation, owing to subjective as well as objective constraints, not each and every one of us can become Yao and Shun. But what Mencius emphasizes is that each and every one of us has the potential to become Yao and Shun. The reason for not becoming Yao and Shun is not that it is impossible but that we have not endeavored. The way to become Yao and shun is to practice xiao and ti. It is not necessary to do super-human acts to become Yao and Shun. Xiao and ti are ordinary means which each and every one of us can implement. What matters is to exploit all our potential and to endeavor practicing xiao and ti in daily life. In this way, all can become holy men as Yao and Shun. In the very act of being created, human nature is stamped and determined by grace. Endowed with the potential for self-transcendence, human is spirit in the world and hearer of God’s Word. The statement “Each and every one of us can become Christ” does not mean human becoming divine. It rather means that human is called to take Christ as the paradigm for self-transcendence, to take part in His Paschal Mystery and, hence, to take part in God’s divine life. Self-transcending in Christ unceasingly, human returns to God the Father. Each and every one of us has the potential for self-transcendence. Taking Christ as the model and endeavoring to fulfill our self-transcendence, each and every one of us can become saint as the incarnate Christ has. Therefore, it is not only possible for each and every one of us to become Christ but is the necessary way to answer God’s calling, the absolute end of our lives. Thus, the statement “Each and every one of us can become Christ” is fully established.
