The paper basically explores concerns and benefits of using assessment portfolios. One thousand students were selected as population, while two hundred served as sample size of the study. The findings of the study showed that portfolios were mostly used as a folder. The finding of the study identified some concerns and benefits from using assessment portfolios to both teachers and students. The concerns were: development of assessment portfolios criteria, rubric and determining the works in portfolios folder can be difficult for teachers at first. Organizing, assessing and giving the feedback to students can be time consuming. Storing, handling and controlling the students in a large classroom, retrieval of works from each student class is burdensome. The benefits were: portfolio provides multiple ways of assessing students learning overtime. It allows parent, students and teachers to evaluate the students’ strengths and weaknesses. It provides opportunities for observations and assessment. It encourages students to develop some abilities needed to become independent, self-directed learner. It also encourages student to be able to share what they are learning.
