「比目」一詞入賦，早見於東漢班固〈西都賦〉，但從清代所編纂的《歷代賦彙》與《賦海大觀》來看，第一篇〈比目魚賦〉，實出現於清代臺灣。毛士釗的〈比目魚賦〉以《爾雅‧釋地》原句「有比目魚焉」為限韻字，全篇就傳聞中比目魚「不比不行」的習性進行鋪寫，也提及「鰈」、「鰜」、「魼」、「魪」等古代比目魚的別稱。本文除了引用古代字書與詩作，對毛士釗〈比目魚賦〉的內容加以解說，結語另透過兩首現代詩，略窺比目魚意象在當代詩人筆下的轉變。

Although the term flatfish as used in Fu (Rhyming prose) can be traced back to the Eastern Han, the usage of Flatfish Fu actually originated in Taiwan during the Qing Dynasty. Flatfish Fu alluded to Er Ya Shih Di that described the special habits of flatfish in ancient legends. This study explains Mao Shi-Zhao’s references to Flatfish Fu in ancient dictionaries and poems, and examines other names of flatfish in ancient times. In conclusion, we can see how the image of flatfish has been transformed by examining two modern poems of contemporary Taiwan.
