舉世聞名的故宮等文物，曾於臺中霧峰北溝貯放了 16年 (1950-1965)，連結北京故宮與臺北故宮的這段關鍵歷史，並不為主流論 述所重視。今「北溝故宮」遺址成了私人土地，雖保留了「北溝故宮文 物典藏山洞」歷史建築，但未見主事者對之有所行動，令人不勝吁噓！ 然「北溝故宮」，具有無窮值得珍視的無畏精神，應當予以發揚並展現給 世人知悉。本文即在闡釋「北溝故宮」16年的始末，在有限人力及經費 不足下，先賢對文物的保管與維護、編目與清點、編輯與出版，以及進 行國内外的展覽等，達到作為一個現代博物館的初步階段，這為爾後的 臺北故宮奠定了基礎。通過客觀層面提升於反思層次，「北溝故宮」展現 了一種特殊的意義，姑且稱為「北溝精神」，其真精神乃來自傳統儒家的 對責任的堅持與對道統的默而識之，展現了物我合一的天人哲學，期盼 對「北溝故宮」一段歷史予以恰當地評價。

The famous artefacts of the Palace Museum were once stored in Wufeng, Taizhong City at the Beigou storage for sixteen years from 1950 until 1965 . The part of history which connects the Palacw museum in Beijing to the Palace museum in Taipei, is not much remembered in the public. Nowadays the remains of the Beigou Palace museum are on private grounds. Although “the storage caves of the Beigou Palace museum” are preserved as a historical site, not much attention has been paid to it. This is deplorable, since the Beigou Palace museum is of considerable historical value. This paper describes how within its sixteen years of existence, the Beigou Palace museum under the most difficult circumstances preserved, catalogued and displayed the artefacts and thus laid the foundations for the Palace museum in Taipei. The commitment to preserve this cultural heritage under roughest circumstances that defines the efforts around the Beigou Palace museum is a fine example of traditional Confucian culture in action.
