Cardinal Paul Yu Pin was a very influential figure in modern Asian Chinese Church. Among other achievements, his restoration of Fu Jen Catholic University in Taiwan was celebrated the most. The motto he created for Fun Jen University, “Truth, Goodness, Beauty and Holiness,” highlighted both his personal cultivation and outstanding ideas about education. As part of Fu Jen University Motto, “holiness” was his own creation; he proposed the theory of three kinds of knowing—knowing people, knowing things and knowing the heaven—as the way to fulfill the ultimate goal of “holiness” in education. Moreover, a wholesome construction of the outstanding “education of sanctification” must be founded on the practice of human beings’ “beneficial use of freedom” in order for one to deal with all kinds of crises and challenges later on in life. Therefore, here we quote the exhortation that Pope Francis made this year about the way to sanctification in today’s world, including Jesus Christ’s eight blessings and Pope Francis’ five marks of holiness.
