英文摘要

This paper focused on the activity of a high school class using a virtual world to create a virtual ecosystem. The main research question was: What kind of learning experiences can a 3D animated virtual world bring to high school students? The research methodology was participatory case study. The participating students were in grades 11 and 12, each with 18 to 20 students working on this project. For the project, students created Vancouver ecosystems in the virtual world and, through the process, learned about ecosystems in the real world. The findings showed that creating, experimenting, and contributing to the project engaged the students. The students and teacher did not need to worry about the budget for the materials used on this project and they were able to experiment with the media as they desired. The nature of their virtual world media provided opportunities for students to challenge themselves at different level of engagement.
