Cinnamomum kanehirae Hayata is an endemic precious tree species in Taiwan. The growth of cultivation by cuttings in nursery was quite good but the survival rate of plantation was low and prone to the situation of growth retardation. We speculated that the cultivation medium of seedlings lacking of mycorrhiza was the reason for the low survival rate. To solve the plantation dilemma of C. kanehirae cuttings, this study investigated arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi composition in artificial and natural forest of C. kanehirae in central Taiwan. In this study, a total of 14 sampling locations with 3 soil-samples in each location were collected from the tree rhizome nearby (i.e., 42 samples in total) during 2013 to 2014. A total of 12 genera with 21 species of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi were found in central Taiwan, and the predominant species are Glomus deserticola, Acalospora mellea, Septoglomus constrictum, and Sclerocystis rubiformis. The three dominant fungi of Acaulospora mellea, A. morrowiae and Septoglomus constrictum were pure-cultured and then inoculated into C. kanehirae rooted cuttings, respectively. Thirteen weeks later, we found that the growth performance, net height growth, total dry weight, S/R ratio, and mycorrhizal dependency were all significantly different between inoculated and control cuttings.
