在 1950 年前後，趙紫宸對蒂利希的思想，尤其是蒂利希《抗議教的時代》一書，產生濃厚興趣。他熱情地說，蒂利希說出了他心裡所想，卻沒有足夠的學術積累將之說出的話。他原計劃將整本書翻譯成中文，但最終只翻譯發表了其中的第一章。這裡通過分析趙紫宸的「被逮住了」觀念與蒂利希之間的學緣，嘗試進一步闡述趙紫宸與蒂利希之間的精神共鳴。

In the beginning year of the New China, the Chinese theologian T. C. Chao was inspired by Paul Tillich, especially by his book The Protestant Era (1948). He told enthusiastically that he agreed totally with what Tillich said in this book. At the same time, he had thought that he would translate the whole book into Chinese, but his plan turned out to be failed and only the first chapter of The Protestant Era was published in the form of translation. Here I try to make it clear that Chao felt inspired by Tillich, on the base of the fact that his idea of “I am caught” comes truly from Tillich.
