This article discusses the first four chapters of Genesis and focuses on the relationship between human and land through the narrative development of the scripture. Based on the analysis of the texts and the word studies on relative terms, the inductive approach brings forth the result that the primitive design for the relationship between human and land is cultivated from the beginning of creation. However, after the Fall, the original harmonious relationship between human and land has changed, been broken, and even been cursed. The only way to resolve the disharmony between human and land is to regain the harmonious relationship between human and God. Therefore, a recovered relationship between human and God is the prerequisite for solving the broken relationship between human and land. Also, according to the research, the Hebrew word for the usage of “land,” which appears consecutively from Genesis 1-4 is ’adamah, not ’eres. Particularly, whenever the text mentions that humans cultivate the land, the word ’adamah is closely related. Only humans are closely connected with ha’adamah (“the land”), where human are able to identify themselves with and find their roots on where they live.
