Explaining the changes of all things through the transformations of the six lines is closely related with the crucial migrations in the Western Zhou Dynasty, the writer believes. Therefore, the writer compares the events of migration with the related descriptions of the hexagrams and lines to understand how Yi Jing (The Book of Changes) generalizes the attributes of historical events into the norms of virtue cultivation. This article is divided into four sections: the foreword, a speculation on the circumstantial factors of the philosophy of Yi Jing, based on Annals of Zhou, Historical Records and The History of the Western Zhou Dynasty by Cho-Yun Hsu; an inquiry on how the philosophy of Yi Jing developed based on Chinese Philosophy: Its Spirit and Its Development by Thome H. Fang; the migrations during the Zhou Dynasty in comparison with the descriptions of the hexagrams and lines; and the humanitarian values of the philosophy of Yi Jing.
