Published by National Taiwan Arts Education Center, The International Journal of Arts Education (InJAE) has been an important academic journal in the fields of arts education. Content analysis was used in this study to analyze 114 academic articles of InJAE published between 2009 and 2019. The purpose of this study was to explore the research fields, research topics, research methods, research subjects and backgrounds of contributors in InJAE during the most recent decade. It is hoped that this analysis could facilitate the understanding of educators who care about arts education in recent development trends of research on international arts education. The International Journal of Arts Education is published biannually in a Chinese-English bilingual format to enable international visibility and serve as academic reference. The research results showed: The International Journal of Arts Education mainly focuses on research fields pertaining to visual art education, and extends to various other fields in arts education. Research topics reveal rich and diverse content of arts education. Most papers are empirical research. Qualitative research methods were more often used than quantitative ones. Authors came from 18 countries and regions. Most of them taught in university. These studies encompassed a wide range of subjects, including preschool education, elementary education, secondary education (junior high school, high school), higher education (university, graduate school), social arts education and special arts education. The International Journal of Arts Education has presented forward-looking and essential research issues in the fields of arts education that reflect educational currents of thought worldwide. It has been an important journal of communicative significance and value in international academic exchange that conveys innovative results, passes down cultural and research experiences, facilitates teacher professional growth and leads arts education development.
