本研究利用2005至2015年間臺灣上市上櫃非金融產業共1,484家公司的資料,檢驗公司社會責任表現是否影響員工生產力、人事成本與人事異動。許多既有研究已指出社會責任會對公司績效、價值、風險與其他經濟後果指標的影響,本研究專注探討社會責任在公司人力資源上的影響,認為善盡社會責任的公司,員工向心力、工作投入、承諾與忠誠傾向較高,從而有相對較高的生產力;本文也認為雖然重視社會責任的公司傾向有較高的員工薪資與福利,但較高的生產力傾向使人事成本率下降,同時有較低程度的人事異動。透過敘述統計、相關分析與多重迴歸估計結果發現,公司社會責任表現對員工生產力呈正向影響,社會責任表現較佳的公司亦傾向有較低的用人費用率與人事異動程度。

英文摘要

Based on data of 1,484 listed nonfinancial companies on Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) and Taipei Exchange Market (TPEx) covering the period of 2005~2015, this research examines whether firm’s engaging in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) increases employee’s productivity, overhead cost and personnel turnover. While existing literature has documented that firm’s engaging in CSR has benefits as well as cost on wide range of firm’s economic consequences (e.g. financial performance, firm value, risk, cost of capital, etc.), how firm’s engaging in CSR affects employee productivity, overhead cost and personnel turnover is less discussed. This research proposes that as firm’s investment on CSR increases, employee may feel that the company is more sustainable-oriented, thus has greater loyalty toward the company which in turns work harder with higher productivity. CSR is firstly proxied by four variables, based on annual name-lists of the Global Views Monthly’s “CSR-Award” and the Common Wealth’s “Corporate Citizens”. Then, CSR is also proxied by computing firm’s social contribution value, social contribution value per share and social returns on assets. Empirical result based on correlation analysis and multiple regression estimation generally shows that firm’s engaging in CSR is positively correlated with greater employee productivity, lower overhead cost and lower personnel turnover which consistent with the view that benefit outweighs cost from engaging in CSR on human resources management.
