亞里斯多德著作的大量佚失是西方思想傳統的重大損失。然而自19世紀中期至今，歷經數代傑出學者的鉤沉輯佚，一部曾經消失的亞氏名作的部分內容重見天日，更多原文正在被一步步恢復出來，這就是亞里斯多德的《勸勉》（Protrepticus）。它的復原工作正在國際亞里斯多德研究界產生越來越重要的學術影響。《勸勉》所包含的哲學價值將實質性地改變我們對於亞里斯多德倫理學、自然哲學和形而上學的理解。

That a substantial part of Aristotle’s works had been lost over time constitutes a great loss to the Western tradition of thought. From the mid-19th Century on, however, through the successive efforts of discovering, compiling and authenticating by generations of outstanding classicists, one long-lost work of Aristotle has been partly restored, approximating its original text bit by bit. This is Aristotle’s Protrepticus. Its reconstruction is drawing increasing attention of the Aristotelian scholars worldwide. The philosophical values within Protrepticus are expected to make a real difference to our understanding of Aristotle’s ethics, philosophy of nature and metaphysics.
