信仰能夠凝聚族群向心力，在政治動亂的民主社會下，信仰成為人們心中所憑藉的依靠。民間信仰是社會文化的產物，信仰往往因為民族的遷徙、自然環境與社會的變遷，而產生變化。在寧靜的臺灣東部，因應生活環境及時代演變，客家先民移居的所在，信仰同樣成為客家族群形成聚落的主要因素。本研究主要應用文獻回顧、田野調查及深度訪談等方法，進行花蓮客家信仰研究。本研究研究結果包括：(1)客家信仰定義之初探、(2)綜理花蓮客家信仰文化發展之特性、(3)分析花蓮客家信仰文化發展之演變因素、(4)臺灣東西部客家信仰差異之發現。

Religion can enhance ethnic cohesion. Amidst social and political turmoil, religion becomes the element that people rely on. Popular religion is a social and cultural product. Religion often evolves due to migration, changes in the natural environment and society. Eastern Taiwan is relatively tranquil. The ancestors of the Hakka emigrated there. They responded to changes in the environment over time. Religion also becomes a major factor in the formation of the Hakka community. This study makes use literary reviews, field surveys, in-depth interviews and planning to examine the development of Hualien Hakka religion. The study: (1) explores the preliminary definition of Hakka religion; (2) integrates the characteristics of Hualien Hakka religion; (3) analyzes the evolution of Hualien Hakka religion;(4)discovers the differences between Hakka religion in eastern and western Taiwan.
