This study investigated how Harry Potter readers interpret the novels’ story network and transmedia landscape on the basis of its intertextual clues. If Harry Potter readers read the novel series in sequence, they may develop an emotional attachment with the main character as they read on and follow the transmedia network of the novels. Readers typically interpret and transform literary landscapes into emotions or clues in daily living (i.e., integrating fictional spaces into real-life landscapes), thus bridging the transmedia gap between literary work and its corresponding scenes. Products that are based on a novel compensate for details not described in the novel and initiate a hermeneutic circle involving the objects described in the fiction, the associations of the five senses, and story discovery, which enables readers to bridge the transmedia gap between the text and products.
