Our environment is mostly designed for the majority, the right-handers. Left-handers experience many inconveniences in life, but only few people advocate for them. Taking traffic as an example, studies showed that left-handers had difficulties in using gearshift levers and experienced left-right confusion. However, the issue related to traffic has not been investigated sufficiently. In addition, knowing how right-handers understand about left-handers’ problems in traffic may be helpful. Therefore, this study aimed to understand how right- and left-handers perceived traffic-related inconveniences in left-handers. This study was a cross-sectional survey study. Left-handers filled out the questionnaire based on their own experience, whereas right-handers filled out the questionnaire according to their perspective of left-hander’s life. The results showed that the left-handers had the following problems: getting lost, pointing to the wrong direction to others, using transportation, instant left-right discrimination, and car accidents. Among these problems, the occurrence of pointing to the wrong direction to others and getting lost was underestimated by the right-handers. From the right-handers’ viewpoint, lefthanders had greater difficulties in using transportation and reading the direction/position. The results suggest the importance of delineating the traffic-related inconveniences in lefthanders to facilitate the design of a friendly traffic system taking into consideration of the left-handers.
