The church is called to the ministry of reconciliation, for the grace of forgiveness and transformation in Jesus Christ reconciles us with God. Peace initiatives aim at tackling social sin, the root causes of social injustice. It does not exclude social protests and direct confrontation. A case study of the anti-extradition protest in Hong Kong in 2019-20 is introduced, and issues arising from it, such as human rights, ethics and spirituality, are articulated and discussed. Since personal sin and social sin are intertwined, a concern of self-transcendence (conversion) is important for practitioners engaging in peace initiatives.
