《向左走向右走》描述都會男女的愛情故事，這看似一見鍾情，短暫相識卻一見傾心，故事描述城市愛情快速進展，然而並沒有平淺化，也沒有輕浮化，展開的情誼可以如此深層。書裡以「路口」意象開始，路口的向左向右，這看似完全的衝突，「路口」展開寬廣空間學，城市景觀的多路口，並且路口的相連貫，組成「圓」的空間景觀。使「遇」與「不遇」展開多重組合：「相遇卻不識」、「錯過而不識」、「相遇的相識」、「相遇的重逢」，這些在 「圓」空間，提供「共在」的生活關連「圓」裡有巧遇的「緣」，在剛好適 時的時間，和到位的空間，向左和向右可以會見彼此。整本書關鍵句眼：「如此靠近卻又如此遙遠。」「遠」和「近」間有著弔詭性，可以既是相近也同 時是遠距。幾米用愛情故事，敘述城市的人潮儘是密擠卻是疏離，始終交會始終錯過，然而這裡也開展屬於城市特有的「圓」之「緣」，使左和右相識錯過而可以再相逢。

Turn Left, Turn Right depicts the love story between a man and a woman living in a city, whose brief acquaintance ignites a love-at-first-sight spark that initiates an unforgettable relationship. The story illustrates a deep relationship that remains firm, despite the fast pace of city life, yet does not turn into a frivolous love affair. The book conveys the image of the “intersection.” While the opposite directions of left and right ostensibly indicate a contradiction, the “intersection” opens up an extensive new space. The multiple crossings and intersections in the city constitute a “circular” space. “Meet” and “do not meet” produce multiple combinations: “meet but not know,” “miss and not know,” “meet and know,” and “meet and reunite,” which create a living philosophy of “coexistence” in a “circular” space. The “fate” in the “circle” allows the two individuals heading in opposite directions to meet at an exact time and space. The key sentence in the book: “So close yet so far from each other,” implies a paradox between “far” and “close” in the story and a distance that is simultaneously long and short. The author Jimmy Liao uses a love story to delineate the close yet distant relationship between people in the city, who keep passing and missing one another. However, the story discloses the coexistence of “fate” and “circle” that occurs only in the city, allowing the two individuals going left and right to be reunited.
