The purpose of this study was to explain soldiers’ feelings after they helped colleagues and examine whether they would be willing to provide helps in the future. Based on group identity, soldiers’ helping behavior is often taken for granted. After the helping behavior, the feedback and feelings that the military helpers perceive may affect their willingness to continue helping others. Specifically, compassion fatigue results in negative emotions. On the other hand, compassion satisfaction usually enhances military helpers’ positive self-affirmation and gratification. To investigate the key role of the above factors in soldiers’ help behavior, the current study employed purposive sampling method to recruit subjects and in-depth interview to collect data. The results showed that: 1. military socialization had considerable influences on military helpers. The influences included: (1) the longer the military socialization, the stronger the officer’s sense of group identify; (2) officer’s motivation to help others would be based on the group mission; (3) the deeper the level of military socialization, the more repressed emotion the officer felt. 2. compassion fatigue not only reduced the willingness of military helpers to help others in the future, but also reduced their degree of group identity. 3. the military helpers felt satisfied with the meaning of their helping behavior and gained self-affirmation, and therefore improve their group identity.
