白蟻是熱帶與亞熱帶地區生態系中重要的清除者,自然界中一半以上的木材是由白蟻與其共生微生物進行分解。白蟻同時也是食物鏈中重要的角色,白蟻與其建構的巢提供其他生物作為食物來源或棲息地。釐清一個地區的白蟻物種分布情形,將有利於估計該地區的木材分解速度,碳元素的循環情形以及生物多樣性。本研究針對臺大實驗林所轄之下坪熱帶植物園以及溪頭營林區,進行白蟻物種調查。在2011年至2021年間於下坪熱帶植物園區一共採集到3科7屬8種白蟻,並於溪頭營林區採集到3科6屬7種白蟻。本研究提供下坪熱帶植物園區以及溪頭營林區的白蟻物種名錄以及各白蟻偏好棲息的環境與分布範圍,提供未來該地區的生態研究參考。

英文摘要

Termite is an important scavenger of the tropical and subtropical ecosystem. More than half of woods worldwide are decomposed by termites and their associated microbial symbionts. Termites also play an indispensable role in food chains. Termites and their nests are food and habitats for other organisms. Understanding the termite biodiversity and their distribution provides useful information in estimating the wood decomposition process, carbon cycle, and overall biodiversity of a given ecosystem. In this study, we conducted a termite survey of the Xiaping Tropical Botanical Garden, and Xitou Management District of the Experimental Forest, National Taiwan University. A total of 3 families, 7 genera, and 8 species were collected from the Xiaping Tropical Botanical Garden, and 3 families, 6 genera, and 7 species were collected from Xitou Management District, between 2011 and 2021. Based on the results, we provide the termite checklist of Xiaping Tropical Botanical Garden and Xitou Management District and describe the habitat and distribution area of each termite for future ecological research.
