本研究主要在探討「在宅保母」如何平衡工作與家庭間的多重角色與界線。本研究採取質性研究、以半結構式的深入訪談法獲得三位受訪者在工作與家庭的相關生活經驗。受訪者目前均在新北市工作，至少有6－11年的相關經驗，研究參與者均與家人同住，在撫養自己的孩子的同时，至少要同時照顧四個孩子。以往的文獻已經證明了「在宅保母」在工作時間可以扮演的許多角色，包括母親、主要照顧者和導師。這項研究發現，「母親」是最主要的角色；其次才是「主照顧者」和「導師」。此外，「在宅保母」自己的孩子也在照顧經驗中發揮重要作用；在相同的環境中，他們為其他孩子提供學習和達成兒童發展重要指標，比如模仿、分享和合作遊戲。本研究還發現，「在宅保母」工作與家庭的界線存在三種類型，即高度彈性與滲透性、一般彈性與滲透性、較低彈性與滲透性界線，每個「在宅保母」都必須不斷進行時間、空間、托育行為的調整，進而實現工作和家庭角色的最佳平衡。

The present study explores how in-home nannies in Taiwan balance multiple roles and boundaries between work and family. The data for this study was gathered through qualitative, semi-structured interviews, from three in-home nannies, currently working in the New Taipei City area, with at least 6-11 years of work experience. Participants in this study live in their own homes, and provide care for at least 4 children simultaneously, alongside with raising their own children. Previous literature has provided identifications of the many roles in-home nannies can occupy during their working hours; including those of mother, primary caregiver, and mentor. This study found that the role of “mother,” to be most emphasized; followed by primary caregiver and mentor. In addition, the biological children of the in-home nannies also play an important role in the caregiving experience; by being present in the same environment, they provide the other children opportunities learn and develop important developmental skills and milestones, such as imitation, sharing and cooperative play.This study also found that there are three degrees of work and family boundaries present in the in-home nanny work experience: high flexibility and permeability, general flexibility and permeability, low flexibility and permeability. Each in-home nanny must engage in constant adjustments of time, space and parenting behaviors to achieve the most suitable balance of work and family roles.
