Implementation within or with a specific physical setting (e.g., a place or an object) is an important part of MAR in application. However, setting learning objectives only through mobile augmented reality (MAR) may not be sustainable. By introducing the concept of context correspondence (Her, 2022), this research attempts to address the unsustainability of MAR. It argues that context awareness is one prominent characteristic of MAR, and “keep users in control” is considered a golden rule in interface design. Based on Cresswell’s tripartite understanding of place, the current author investigated two cases in a museum alongside an analytic framework with linking correspondence between place, object, and a sense of agency with MAR. The findings reassured the significant role of context correspondence in realizing the learning objectives of MAR.
