This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the uses of information and communication technology (ICT) to facilitate citizen coproduction in pre- and post-disaster situations. An existing typology is used to classify 12 disaster information platforms that draw on citizen coproduction in this social media age. The results distinguish the range of coproduction activities performed both before and after disasters, but this approach has two limitations: 1) several ICT platforms can be included in more than one group; and 2) forms of citizen coproduction depend on whether they are driven from inside or outside the affected community. Therefore, this paper proposes an altered typology of ICT-facilitated citizen coproduction in disasters that considers both factors.
