The aim of the present work is to determine sugar, phenolic contents and antioxidant activities of five unknown Algerian date cultivars. The total sugar, phenolic contents and antioxidant activities were measured. Total sugar of different date cultivars varied from 372.35 to 593.82 mg/g dry weight (DW) and the butanolic extracts proved to contain a significant amount of total phenolic, total flavonoid and total condensed tannin contents that varied from 20.20 to 31.03 mg GAE/100 g DW, from 0.28 to 4.26 mg QE/100 g DW and from 18.90 to 52.07 mg CE/100 g DW, respectively. The results showed that the cultivars exerted different antioxidant capacities. Among the tested cultivars, Infected Tinnaser marked with the strongest antioxidant activities assessed using DPPH and CUPRAC followed by Tamazouchete which possessed the strongest reducing antioxidant capacities tested by FRAP test. The tested date butanolic extracts suggest to be as a savviest useful source of sugar and antioxidant for frequent human consumption as well as using it as additives in food. Finally, other research about these unknown cultivars could promote their economic value.
