唐君毅先生曾對朱子《大學.格致補傳》進行一番原論,相關說法主要集中於唐先生的《中國哲學原論.導論篇》之第九、十章〈原格物致知(上)(下)〉,副標題為「大學章句辨證及格物致知思想之發展」。朱子為《大學》補上〈格致補傳〉,及一些增減動作,而為《大學》新本,之後便引來各家的贊成或反對,如陽明即不取朱子新本,以其更動甚多,而為朱子理學體系下的《大學》,已非原貌。至於唐先生則欲將《大學》格物致知說放回中國哲學原論之處,而來追本溯原,並對朱子做法提出評論。本文則是對唐先生之原論再做檢視,探討其中的貢獻或缺失。

Tang Jun-yi’s inquiries on the original ideas of Zhu Xi’s Supplementary Commentaries of Ge Wu Zhi Zhi, Great Learning are compiled in the nineth and tenth chapters of his Introduction, The Original Ideas of Chinese Philosophy, titled as “The Original Ideas of Ge Wu Zhi Zhi, Part I,” “The Original Ideas of Ge Wu Zhi Zhi, Part II,” and subtitled as “The Dialectic of The Interpretations of Great Learning and the development of the ideas of Ge Wu Zhi Zhi.” Zhu Xi releases a new edition of Great Learning, which is replenished with “The Supplementary Commentaries of Ge Zhi” and with some additions and reductions. This new addition is greeted with controversial reviews from various scholars; for instance, Wang Yang-ming dismisses Zhu’s new edition since it’s changed too much to be called Great Learning. As for Tang Jun-yi, he puts the theory of Ge Wu Zhi Zhi back into the context of the original ideas of Chinese philosophy to trace to its original source, while commenting on Zhu Xi’s methodology. This article is to review Tang’s theory of the original ideas and inquire on its contributions or deficiencies.
