Within the realm of artistic expression, satire has long been recognized as a creative and often humorous technique employed across various art forms including literature, film, music, and visual arts. This article explored the multifaceted role of satire in contemporary art education specifically as a catalyst for nurturing creativity, critical thinking, and social awareness. With this research objective, a university class of visual studies was instructed to produce a short video in groups (4-5 students in each group) addressing an important social issue and incorporating satire (i.e., parody or irony) into the video. Three class participants were invited to participate in a group critique session in which they examined the two randomly selected videos created by this class. This was followed by a semi-structured interview, in which three participants analyzed and interpreted the content and structure of the two selected videos to yield insight into the instructional implications of satire for contemporary art education.
