蔡仁厚教授與周聯華牧師的對話源自前者於1981年在東海大學「中國文化研討會」上宣讀，而後在《鵝湖》發表的〈關於宗教會通的問題〉一文。蔡、周之間的對話環繞著蔡所提出的六個問題展開，包括：一、人人可以成為基督嗎？二、耶穌是神而人，還是人而神？三、人不通過耶穌就不能得救嗎？四、是耶穌獨尊，還是與孔子釋迦……同尊？五、非基督宗教必須讓位嗎？六、是基督教中國化，還是中國基督教化？兩者的對話似乎沒有交集。但筆者認為，周聯華在文中提及的東正教「神秘聯合」或能為基督宗教和儒家間的會通開啟不同的思考向度。

The dialogues between Tsai Jen-hou (1930-2019), one of the representative scholars from the Contemporary Neo-Confucian camp, and Chow Lien-hwa (1920-2016), a Chinese Baptist minister and theologian, originated from Tsai’s essay entitled “Concerning the Questions about the Communication between and Integration of Religions.” In this essay, Tsai mentioned that in the interaction between Chinese and Western cultures, the interreligious communication and integration are focusing on six topics, including 1. Can everyone become Christ? 2. Is Jesus God or man? 3. Can everyone be saved without through Jesus? 4. Is it that only Jesus can be revered by people or that Jesus and Confucius, Siddhattha Gotama and other important religious figures are all revered by people? 5. Must non-Christian religions yield to Christianity? and 6. Is Christianity to be sinicize or China to be Christianized? There was no concurrence in the dialogues between Tsai and Chow. Nevertheless, the notion of “mystical union” from the Orthodox theology suggested by Chow may shed some light for thinking the prospect of communication between Confucianism and Christianity in the present time.
