本文聚焦於賈寶玉，從榮格自性化角度，觀察寶玉的矛盾和轉變，在現實與理想的兩端尋求平衡，最終自性化（individuation）的過程。文中分三部分討論，首先探究寶玉內部人格的不協調，看到寶玉女性化的特質，帶出其不同於俗的性格，而這種特質和生長背景以及對女性崇拜有關，這種傾向，也使之逃避無法面對應承負的責任；而長期的壓抑，產生人格面具和陰影，壓抑無意識，生命追求整體的可能性便被否定了。然而，危機即轉機，寶玉由沉溺現況，無遠大目標，投身於對情的追求，卻發現一切只是想象的投射。而黛玉之死，以及太虛幻境的夢，讓他有所轉變。唯有接受自己與接受世界，明白自身獨特性與實現集體性，發現生命的本質，看見自身與生命不同的可能，看透生命中所承載的命運與應該完成的職責，如是，才能在對立中尋求統一，邁向自性化。

Dealing with the contradictory and conflictual situations, i.e., the dilemma between internal and external worlds, in Jia Baoyu’s life journey, this analysis draws on individuation, Jung’s centralizing idea, to shed new light on the present corpus concerning Redology. It will be divided into three parts. The first part tackles the feminine quality so peculiar to Baoyu, which is closely related to his family background largely dominated by female characters. We will then move on to Baoyu’s self-exile and the ensuing quest. The persona and the shadow are activated due to the long-term repression of the unconscious, hence the negation of the psyche’s totality. However, the crisis is a turning point. Baoyu is addicted to the current situation and has no lofty goal. He devotes himself to the pursuit of love, but finds that everything is just the projection of imagination. The death of Daiyu and the dream of Taixu dreamland changed him. Finally, comes the possible integration of Baoyu’s personality after a series of ethical confrontations, presupposing the insight that the dynamic balance between the personal and the collective is indispensable if one wants to see to the heart of the matter and carry on the individuation process.
