The proposition of the "Tang-Song Transformation Theory" in historical periodization has sparked extensive discussions from various perspectives. Nevertheless, the study focused on classical interpretation and exegetical concepts. It started to investigate scholars in Song Dynasty, such as Liu Chang and Ouyang Xiu. These scholars transitioned from restoration to skepticism regarding the ancients, liberating themselves from the traditional Han-Tang exegesis that had previously confined scholars in a chain of transmission. They aimed to interpret their predecessors' annotations while believing that future generations should not be restricted by the limitations of the original viewpoints. Instead, they aspired to innovate new meanings in the realm of textual analysis. While the Confucianism and ethical scholarship had been prevalent during that era, scholars developed new perspectives and methods for interpreting classical texts. Viewing this as a starting point for observation, it was possible to explore those scholars of the Song Dynasty might have harbored cultural intentions in their interpretations and exegetical explanations of the classics during the background of socioeconomic rotation. Among these, scholars' concepts and methods of exegetical interpretation could serve as reflections of the historical context of the Tang-Song transformation. Scholars' interpretations of textual nuances in their commentaries and annotations could unveil the linguistic and psychological dimensions of the secular culture during that period. Regarding the textual interpretation, a careful examination of the discourse system in which scholars of the Song Dynasty analyzed the structure of characters, using the Six Script Categories, revealed a departure from merely relying on the forms of seal script and clerical script during the Han Dynasty. Instead, there emerged a contemporary focus on the regular script style, as well as the utilization of methods from epigraphy and archaeology, based on unearthed artifacts. Concerning the analysis of phonology and semantic meaning of vocabulary, an initial model of seeking meaning through sound emerged. Additionally, there was a documentation and analytical exploration of colloquial terms and expressions. In the realm of textual interpretation, a thorough examination of the discourse system employed by scholars of the Song Dynasty to analyze character structures through the Six Script Categories highlighted a departure from solely depending on the forms of seal script and clerical script that were prevalent during the Han Dynasty. Instead, a contemporary emphasis on the regular script style emerged, alongside the incorporation of techniques from epigraphy and archaeology, drawing from unearthed artifacts. Regarding the scrutiny of phonology and semantic meaning within the vocabulary, an initial model of extracting meaning from sound began to take shape. Furthermore, there was a recording and analytical exploration of vernacular terms and expressions. This paper aimed to elucidate and analyze the primary points of emphasis within the interpretations and annotations of Confucian classics and sketches during the Song Dynasty. It centered on the analysis of classical commentaries and textual interpretations, encompassing materials pertaining to "original meaning" and "new meaning," and investigated concepts and methodologies pertaining to the analysis of character forms, phonetics, semantics, and the exploration of sound-meaning correlations. The paper investigated how Confucian scholars of the Song era comprehended classical texts while constructing a novel cultural domain. It scrutinized the concepts, methodologies, traits, and impacts of exegetical approaches that flourished within Song Dynasty Confucianism.
