New Criticism was helpful in better understanding a story. This understanding had the possibility to help one grow when it was applied to one’s life. This paper would use New Criticism theory to explore six stories. These six stories were Wood’s (1987) Heckedy Peg, Zemach’s (1976) (Retold) It Could Always Be Worse, Zemach’s (1986) The Three Wishes, Slobodkina’s (1968) (Renewed) Caps for Sale, Cooney’s (1958) (Adapted) Chanticleer and the Fox, and Zemach's (1973) (Retold) Duffy and the Devil. It was hoped that this paper could profit those who enjoyed studying stories.
