甲型甘擾素與雷巴威林時常被使用於慢性C 型肝炎患者的治療。甘擾素併發的視網膜病變常包括視網膜缺血導致的軟性滲出物與視網膜出血。此種視網膜病變臨床上大多屬良性且會自行痊癒。甘擾素的治療大多可以繼續而不必中止。糖尿病視網膜病變也會有類似的視網膜軟性滲出物與出血，但是預後卻較差。臨床上眼科醫師如何及早並正確的區別這兩種視網膜病變是相當重要的。
