The thermal friction drilling process is one of the nontraditional drilling processing wherein optimization of process parameters leads to better performance characteristics. This study has applied TOPSIS with Taguchi methods to determine the optimum process parameters in thermalfriction drilling process. The process parameters considered are workpiece material, feed rate, and spindle speed. The objective is to minimize surface roughness and maximize bushing length simultaneously. An orthogonal array, Signal to Noise ratio, TOPSIS and ANOVA are employedto analyze the effects of input process parameters on the output performance characteristics. Inthis study, the decision matrix is formed using the Signal to Noise ratio, and the TOPSIS methodis then used to convert multi-objective optimization problems into single- objective problems. The results show that the method is suitable for solving the multi-objective optimization ofprocess parameters. Results also showed that workpiece material AISI 304, feed rate 150mm/min and spindle speed 6000 rpm are the optimum combination of process parameters whichgives maximum bushing length (4.98mm) and minimum surface roughness (0.358μm).
