Deleuze, who noticed the difference in the meaning of Dionysus in Nietzsche’s early and late thoughts, interpreted Dionysus in Nietzsche’s late thoughts as unconsciousness by using Jung’s thoughts, and interpreted Ariadne as “anima”. However, why did Deleuze use Jung’s process of individuation to interpret the transformation of Dionysus? Was it because he realized that the transformation of Dionysus was related to Nietzsche’s transformation? This paper will explore the meaning of Ariadne’s and Dionysus’ union in Nietzsche’s thought and its relation to Nietzsche’s self-transformation from Deleuze’s interpretation of Ariadne’s myth.
