因目前3G系統在高鐵沿線信號覆蓋不足，造成通話品質不佳、及無法提供網路連線。為解決此問題，本計畫實驗性的在高鐵列車內建置無線區域網路(WLAN)，並以WiMAX為無線傳輸介面，連接列車內WLAN與網際網路(Internet)，提供乘客在搭乘高鐵時，可以進行通話、瀏覽網路等服務。本文敘述列車內WLAN架構設計及達成之效能。

Due to the poor RF signal coverage of the 3rd wireless communications system along the THSR (Taiwan High-Speed Rail) track, passengers traveling with THSR experience bad voice quality via phone and are unable to acquire stable data communications to Internet. To solve this problem, a project is proposed to construct WLAN in train and WiMAX system as the wireless air interface between the WLAN and the Internet, to serve passengers VoIP and Internet surfing. This article describes the design and the performance of the WLAN.
