The aim of the research was to understand the relations among parent-child play, family expressiveness and young children's emotional regulation. A questionnaire survey had been conducted among preschool children aged 3-6 years and their parents in Greater Taipei Area. The instruments used for data collection were Parent-Child Play Questionnaire, Self-Expressiveness in the Family Questionnaire, and Young Children's Emotional Regulation. The total of 372 valid questionnaires were collected. Through descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation and regression analyses, the research results were presented as the following: The parents played with their young children about "once or twice a week," and their attitudes toward parent-child play tended to be "sometimes," in which their structure attitude was higher; in family expressiveness, their positive expressiveness was higher than negative expressiveness; the children's emotional regulation level was found to be intermediate. According to Pearson Correlation analyses, in parent-child play, frequency of parent-child play, involvement attitude, enjoyment attitude, structure attitude, positive and negative expressiveness of family expressiveness had low significantly relations with young children's emotional regulation. The results of regression analyses indicated that all variables explained 13% of young children's emotional regulation. Enjoyment attitude of parent-child play, positive and negative expressiveness of family expressiveness predicted significantly to emotional regulation. According to the results, the research puts forward suggestions for parents and preschools to take into consideration and provides directions for future research.
