The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of physical activity on weight change, blood pressure, resting heart rate, and blood parameters (red blood cells count, hemoglobin, white blood cells count, haematocrit) in a sample of pregnant women (n=66). Subjects were residents of kaushung city and all agree to participate in this study. The subjects were all above 30 weeks in pregnancy (x=33.5 ± 3.5 weeks). The subjects were divided into four groups according to their before and during pregnant levels of physical activity or inactivity: A-A (Active-Active, n=22), A-I (Active-Inactive, n= 14), 1- A (Inactive-Active,n=19), and I-I (Inactive-Inactive, n=ll). A two-way ANOV A was utilized to analyze the data using 0.01 level of significance. The results are listed fOllowing: 1.The weight changes, blood pressure, and resting heart rate of the physically active group during pregnancy were significantly lower than the inactive group (P < .01). 2. The resting heart rate and the systolic blood pressure of the physically active group before pregnancy were significantly lower than the inactive group (P < .01). 3. There is no significant difference in blood parameters (red blood cells count, hemoglobin, white blood cells count, haemotocrit) resulting from physical activities of before or during pregnancy. Judging from the above results, we find that the physical activities engaged before or during pregnancy can have lower resting heart rate than other pregnant women, but the physical activities engaged during pregnancy will result in having less weight gain. Therefore, the study suggests that women should improve their physical fitness before pregnancy and stop doing intense exercise during pregnancy.
