臺東縣手球運動曾經風光一時，成績頗佳，但是由於目前已經沒落，所以鮮少有人知道這段史實，再加上筆者曾經學習手球運動，對於此一運動感到十分有興趣，加上筆者正在台求就學，道引起筆者研究臺泉縣手球運動發展之動機。對於臺東縣手球運動是如何興起?如何發展?又為何沒落等問題?即是本研究所要探討的課題。本研究採用歷史研究法及訪問法，蒐集有關臺東縣手球運動發展過程之資料。研究之範圍則以臺泉縣推展手球運動的各級學校鳥對象。臺東縣的手球運動，為民國五十六年由教育廳國教輔導團至各國小介紹，由當時的省立臺泉師範專科學校(以下簡稱台東師專)的輔導下，各國小開始推展，因此，其推展方式是由土往下一直推展到各級學校去。民國六十年臺東縣手球委員會成立，大力推展臺東縣的手球運動，除了鼓勵各級學校發展手球運動，並在縣內舉辦許多比賽，而且積極參加縣外的比賽，獲得良好的成績。民國七十年至七十五年間為台東縣手球運動的全盛時期，當時全縣約有三分之二的學校發展手球運動，各級學校踴躍的參加縣內的比賽，對外的比賽成績亦是此時為最佳。但後來因資金短缺，手球委員會停止運作，加上各個學校發展別的運動項目，如棒球，使得各級學校手球隊隊數日趨減少，台泉縣的手球運動則漸趨沒落。

It was very famous in hand-ball sport at Taitung County. They always got very high records. However， it was degenerated nowadays. Rare people know the historical facts， in addition that the writer， me， is educating at here， I had learned handball sport with very high interest. Itmakes me have the emotion to research the hand-ball sport at Taitung County. How the hand-ball growing， how to expand it， and why it was degenerated were the main frame of my researching coursework. Theresearch follows historical and surveying method by collecting the data of expanding process of Taitung hand-ball sport. The research was restricted in the range of hand-ball sport in Taitung County. Hand-ball sport in Taitung County was introduced by the nationalist educational counselling group， Taiwan Provincial Educational Department and was assisted by National Taitung Teacher Trainning College. Being expanded by elementary school， we may know that it was expanded from bottom to top. Taitung County hand-ball committee was formed at 1971. The committee pushing hand-ball sport by encouraging different level schools to expand the sport and holding many campaigns of hand-ball or attending the game out of Taitung. Those hand-ball teams all got very good records. From 1981 to 1986 was the highest term of Taitung hand-ball sport. Two third of the schools of Taitung County expand hand-ball sport. Every level school attended the raceing of hand-ball in Taitung County. Even in the other county， they also got very good records. However， for the fiscal control， committee was stopped running their operations. Besides， each school has heir own special term of sport， e.g. baseball. It makes the shortened of the number of hand-ball teams. Hand-ball sport was degenerated gradually.
