英文摘要

Objective: Existing psycho-oncology research in Taiwan focuses almost exclusively on pathology after the diagnosis of cancer. Little is known about how patients flourish and grow after the disease experience. This study investigated the phenomenon of posttraumatic growth among Chinese cancer survivors. Posttraumatic growth (PTG) is defined by the positive changes which people report experiencing following a traumatic event (e.g., cancer). The aim of this study is to investigate the dimensions posttraumatic growth and its relationship with psychological symptoms among Taiwanese breast cancer survivors.
Method: 163 breast cancer patients were asked to complete a Chinese posttraumatic growth inventory, translated from the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI), together with the Chinese versions of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression scale (HADS).
Results: Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed that five-factor model proposed by Tedeschi and Calhoun (1996; NNFI=0.98 CFI=0.98 SRMR=0.061 RMSEA=0.079) had a better fit to the data than two-factor model proposed by Ho et al. (2004; NNFI=0.98 CFI=0.98 SRMR=0.063 RMSEA=0.081). Correlational analyses showed that five subscales of the PTGI all had significant negative correlations with depression (r=-.39***~-.48***) but not anxiety.
Conclusion: The 5-factor structure represents a more psychometrically-sound measure of PTGI than 2-factor structure, which dichotomized PTGI into an Interpersonal and an Intrapersonal dimension. The findings also indicate that PTG is negatively related to depression, an indicator of psychological distress, but is not associated with anxiety, implicating that anxiety could be emotion produced in the struggling process.
