Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the independent effect of Type D personality on resting endothelial function.
Method: Participants were 39 (20 male and 19 female) healthy Taiwanese aged 40-70 years. Type D personality was measured by Type D personality Scale-14 Chinese version. Vascular dilatory functions (FMD) were measured by using ultrasound imaging of the brachial artery before and after cuff occlusion.
Results: Hierarchical multiple regression analyses revealed the independent negative effect (β = -.347, p < .05) of Type D personality on FMD. And this association is independent from biological risk factors.
Conclusion: Type D personality was independently associated with vascular dilatory functions. Findings are consistence with the noted relationship between Type D personality and cardiovascular diseases (CVD), and suggest a possible pathway to disease via an association with endothelial function.
