英文摘要

Objective: Male adolescents with conduct problems need treatment but are difficult to treat. When they are in psychotherapy, it is important to examine the effects of therapy so to develop better programs to better help male adolescents with conduct problems. This study has three objectives: (1) to provide a group therapy program for male adolescents with conduct problems at a half-way group home, (2) to evaluate the effects of this program, and (3) to compare the interpersonal processes of the participants in this program.
Method: Aiming to improve participants' interpersonal skills, this group program consisted 12 group sessions for seven male high school students who live at a half-way group home. Each group session lasted one hour and was held once a week. During the first and the last group therapy sessions, participants filled out the following questionnaires: Students' Interpersonal Relationship Scale, Students' Life Adjustment Scale, and Interpersonal Difficulty Self-report.
Results: In addition to the quantitative analysis of the pre- and post-tests, qualitative analysis was used based on the journal records of the group leader and the observer. Comparisons of the interpersonal processes of all the seven participants across 12 group sessions were made. Although most of the participants did not show significant progress of their interpersonal skills after this program was over, follow-up interviews indicated that five members seemed to demonstrate improved communication and interpersonal skills. Conclusion: There are pros and cons of this group therapy program. Suggestions were made to improve the designs of the program activities and group discussions, the leadership skills, as well as the preparation and management of this group program.
